How to Make a Faux Wood Beam

I show you how I make and installed this huge faux wood beam which envelops the existing 12" I beam that supports the floor above. Since the I beam is over 12" I had to use plywood instead of 1x12 material as it woudlnt be wide enough. I used 1/2" construction grade plywood for that rustic look. The metal straps are 4" by 1/8" thick flat bar which is treated with cold blue to make it look black.
