“Rich in Love” is a hymn-style ballad written in loving memory of Doreen — a devoted mother who raised four children alone with courage, gentleness, and unwavering love.
Though the family had little money, their home was filled with warmth: an old boiler glowing in the kitchen, soup simmering on top, crumpets toasting on the grate, and the soft click of knitting needles as Nana and Mum made jumpers to keep the children warm.
Doreen cleaned houses by day and stitched wedding dresses by night. When pennies allowed, she made beautiful dresses for her daughters — sometimes matching, sometimes the same style in different colours — each one sewn with care and pride.
She was fun-loving, kind, and loved by everyone who knew her. She never shouted, never showed anger — only patience and quiet strength.
This song is a tribute to a mother who may have been poor in the world’s eyes, but whose family was truly rich in love.
