Nadaswaram, the Mangala vadyam (auspicious instrument) is a double reed wind instrument which is the world's loudest non-brass acoustic instrument. According to the historian, temple music reached its pinnacle with the evolution of nadaswaram. While there is much debate about the advent of the nadaswaram, it is during 15th century for the first time the nagaswaram and the tavil were seen as distinct musical instruments of the temple. In terms of the evolution of Carnatic music itself, the improvisations played on the nadaswaram in the temple have greatly influenced the music produced at concerts in the city today.

His musical journey with great Thavil maestro Valayapatti A. R. Subramaniam proved to be a landmark in live Nadaswaram concerts.
