"It was really hard and exhausting to get out. We went to the outskirts, to the agricultural areas, and we slept on the ground. We left our houses and we have no idea what happened to them."

"We all left because of what Daesh (acronym for the Islamic State group) did to us. But the guys (Syrian Democratic Forces) got us out and brought us here. They brought us food, drinks and water and thank God we are doing okay."

STORYLINE:
Thousands of civilians from the Syrian village of al-Haisha, on the northern outskirts of Raqqa, managed to escape to safety on Thursday, as operations continued to free the city from the Islamic State group (IS).
The civilians reached an area under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a US-backed coalition of Kurdish and Arab militias, who are currently moving against the IS-held city.
The SDF said it had taken over 15 villages since the operation was launched on Sunday.
