I had an opportunity recently to take my metal breech from my Crosman 362 and install it on my Crosman 2240. I was hoping it would bump my performance up by at least 10 to 20 fps on velocity, as the metal breech had resulted in 10 to 15 fps increase in velocity on my Crosman 362.
I also purchased a brass bolt with an extended probe from an after-market company for my 362 project. This is supposed to increase velocity by pushing the pellet a little further into the chamber and getting just a little in front of the transfer port where all the pneumatic energy is being released when an air rifle shot goes off.
So the testing would be metal breech with regular probe vs factory breech with regular probe. A second set of test would be metal breech with regular probe vs metal breech with extended probe. (you can not replace the bolt in the factory breech).
If it all worked as hoped I would maybe get the 2240 to 485 fps with a Crosman Hollow Point pellet, which is where it breaks into the 10 ft/lbs kinetic energy range.
On top of that, I just happened to be shooting the testing on Apr 8, 2024, the day Copperas Cove, TX was in the path of a total solar eclipse. Since the last time that happened in TX was over 100 years ago, I thought I would also include that footage.
The speed tests didn't give me the results I anticipated.
