Trash Bags, Complaints, Pile Up Against Wast

Описание: BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. -- On Heavenly Way in Swannanoa, many have lost faith in a routine service.

"Come get it, there it is!" Gail Muse vents.

Two days after her garbage was supposed to be picked up, Gail is fuming. She claims Waste Pro is unresponsive and incapable.

"They need to get their act together," she says. "It's extremely frustrating. We're old, we don't like dragging the trash out the first time, let alone two or three times."

Neighbor Karen Shuler feels overlooked too.

"Out here you can't leave the trash out because of the bears. So you've gotta carry it every evening and bring it back out," Shuler explains. "You've got more things to deal with every day and every evening than deal with your trash."

All over Buncombe County, the complaints and the bags are piling up along the many streets. Some say they haven't seen a garbage truck in three weeks.

Florida-based Waste Pro began its 10-year contract with buncombe county in 2010. GDS had the contract before that.

Waste Pro's division manager says they're working overtime to catch up by Saturday.

"They are bringing in additional manpower this weekend," says assistant county manager Jon Creighton.

Creighton says Waste Pro told him they've been dogged by equipment and personnel problems. He tells us the next few days could impact their future in Buncombe County.

"But obviously this is not a short term solution. I mean we've gotta have assurances that we are back on track and get it going," Creighton says.

If they don't right the ship, he says Waste Pro may leave county leaders with no other choice.

"Then I think we will have the county attorney involved and take it from there," he says.

In the meantime, Muse is fed up with the garbage guessing game. She says its high time the county kicks Waste Pro to the curb.

"If they can't be big and take care of everything they need to go back to where they come from," she says. "Simple as that, I'm done! "
