About the monument: -
Long ago a seaman named Mr. Sebastiao Silva Lobo happened to make a port to Karachi. There he saw the beautiful monument of Christ the King – which was built underground. He liked it so much that he thought of building the same in his village-Assolna. The soil of Assolna being very soft building such a monument was impossible, thus it was decided to build it above the ground.
The cost of building the monument came to around Rs. 12000/- Of the total cost, Rs.8000/- was paid by Mr. Sebastiao Silva Lobo. The rest was contributed by the villagers. All the statues of marble which we presently see were brought from Italy. This monument was blessed on 24th Oct. 1937. This is the 83rd year of its inception.
The monument depicts the glorious coming of Christ the king on judgment day. The statue of Christ The king with his arms open wide tells us of His profound love for mankind. The monument is full of symbols of a king, the Angels blowing the bugle, the sword, the crown, the scepter. There is the Holy Spirit Hovering over the tabernacle and Angels guard it. The seal of the Pope is also depicted. The four Evangelists who kept a record of the work of Jesus are also seen along with their symbols.
