How to Jump Cut or Hold Segments in FCP | Everything You Need To Know in video editing Final Cut Pro

Описание: This is a very useful video editing technique in Final Cut Pro to do JUMP CUT or HOLD segments of the video. There are many varieties of Cuts which film makers use. Like for example, Cross Cut, Parallel Cut, J Cut, L Cut, Hard Cut, Match Cut etc., This is everything what you need know to do JUMP CUT in FCPx.

What is Jump Cut. Jump cut is basically jumping frames without deleting the clip. It gives an appearance of jumping or moving forward through time. Let's look at the options available for jump cut in final cut pro.

You will see “Jump Cut At Markers” with options to do 3 frames, 5 frames, 10 frames, 20 frames & 30 frames. So what does this mean. This means you have options to Jump 3 frames, 5 frames, 10, or, 20, or, 30 frames. So. Before you do anything, let’s duplicate this clip. Simply Press & hold “Option” Key and drag it above. Select the clip. Move the playhead. Press M. This will place a marker in that particular area.

Also you make sure to turn the snap button on by simply pressing “N”. This will snap between clips and items you have in your timeline editor.

Quick tip is, you press the right arrow on mac, it moves one frame ahead. If you press Shift & Right arrow, that moves 10 frames ahead. So move to the desired portion and Press “M” to place the marker. Repeat it until you reach the desired portion of the clip.

Now select the clip, and go to “Jump Cut At” Markers. You Notice now, the clip between the markers become short. Now play the clip. Thats it.

Important tip is, if incase you want to bring the clip to its original speed. Just simply select “Reset speed”. This will bring back the clip to its original speed.
