Brazil has declared acai a national fruit to protect it from biopiracy, ensuring that this valuable resource remains under Brazilian ownership. The law aims to prevent foreign companies from patenting Amazonian fruits and their ingredients, while promoting fair benefit-sharing. Though largely symbolic, it underscores Brazil’s efforts to safeguard its biodiversity and prevent exploitation of its natural resources.
