🏊‍♀️Personal Experience 💁‍♀️:
l learned swimming just 1 year and 8
months ago, in my 30s, and recently participated in my first ever swimming competitionof (any kind) in the sea, despite only having two sea swimming practice
sessions. Initially, I doubted whether I could even complete a 5km swim.
However, I managed to secure 2nd place in my age group (26 to 45 years) and 6th in overall womens category (ie. age 16 to 45 years).
🏅🥈I was awarded a bronze medal on the day of the event, but a week later, when detailed rankings and timings were released, my position was rectified to 2nd position- a silver medal.


Unfortunately, this year, due to a sudden and
unpredictable change in wind, the sea became quite wild. It was a very challenging swim, with waveshitting, making it extremely difficult to sight and breathe, and tides pulling inward, for which had no prior practice or experience. It wasn't easy-l panicked multiple times and even cursed myself for joining the event. But at the same time, I gathered courage and gave my best.

Overall, it was an overwhelming experience, and I am proud of myself for learning a new skill and completing a 5km sea swim in such difficult conditions.

🏊‍♂️Event: Sunk Rock to Gateway of India🏊‍♀️

Event organised by Maharashtra State Amateur Aquatic Association.

💠Sunk Rock Ligh House to Gate way is Annual Race held every year in month of February. Its Mumbai's oldest, Biggest and most popular open water sea swimming event.

Age limit: anyone above age of 8 years can participate
Age 8 to 9 years - 1kms
Age 10 to 13 years - 2kms
Age 14 to 45 years - 5kms
Age 46 to 55 years - 2 kms
Age 56 years and above - 1km
Specially abled - 1km
Race is divided in 9 Groups as per Age and Gender.

💰Entry fee : ₹ 2,000/- per person (In 2024)
Inclusion :
1. Entry
2.Finisher medal and participation Certificate (on successful finishing the race in stipulated time)
3. Event T- shirt
4. Small energy drink
5. Lunch veg n non veg (which was packed pulav/ chicken Biryani)

🚿Changing Rooms and shower rooms are not available, however public washroom can be used which are located at Gateway of India. so come prepared accordingly.

🕑Timing: Everyone must complete the race within the stipulated time, i.e., 1 hour and 15 minutes. Anyone who fails to do so will be picked up by the boat.
🔖This year, due to unexpected changes in winds and tides, hardly anybody was able to complete the race on time, so organizers had to let go of the timings. A huge number of swimmers had to be picked up by boats because of the tides.

🦺Safety: There are enough lifeguards, volunteers, and boats along the race who keep eyes on all the swimmers. If anyone feels uncomfortable, they have to raise their hand, and a boat will come to rescue them.


🏆Prize Distribution: Prize distribution is held at K R Cama Oriental Hall, opp. Lion Gate after 1pm onwards i.e. after race.
First 10 finishers are given prize on the stage in categories with large number of participants.
In categories with less participants First 3 finishers are given prize on stage.

It is advised to have atleast 2 sea swimming practice sessions before the race to get understanding of sea swimming.

🛂Sea swimming practice sessions are conducted by Shakir Khan Sir at Juhu beach, Mumbai and Santosh Patil Sir at Uran beach , Navi Mumbai.
