Slavín is located in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava. It is a memorial mounument and military cemetary that is dedicated to the 6845 Soviet Army soldiers who lost their lives during WW2.
The Slavín monument remembers the lives of the 6,845 Soviet soldiers who died during the liberation from the German Wehrmacht units and the remaining Slovak troops who supported the clero-fascist Tiso government in April 1945. Many of the soldiers are buried here in six mass and 278 individual graves.

The monument was designed by the Slovak sculptor and architect Ján Svetlík. It was built between 1957-60 and officially unveiled on April 4, 1960(the 15th anniversary of the liberation). On top of the 42 meter tall obelisk is a 12.5 meter tall statue of a soldier from Slovak sculptor Alexander Trizuljak. The soldier is holding up a flag in his right hand and crushing the swastika with his left boot. The bronze caisson door of the memorial auditorium is decorated with reliefs by R. Pribiš.

Slavín is located on top of the Slavín hill, one of Bratislava Old Town's topographic highs (part of the Male Karpaty mountains.). The location offers excellent views of much of Bratislava, which makes it a popular destination for walks for local residents.

Walking: It is possible to walk to Slavin from the Bratislava Old Town . The walk is approximately 1.5 kms.

By Car: Drive from Bratislava Old Town, along the Pažického street to Slavín
