The rise of artificial beauty standards, largely driven by social media, AI, and the cosmetics industry, has significant effects on self-perception and mental health:
Unrealistic Ideals: AI-enhanced images and filters create an unattainable standard of "perfection," which can damage self-esteem and lead to insecurities. Constant exposure to such altered images blurs the line between what is normal and what is digitally enhanced.
"Snapchat Dysmorphia": There is a phenomenon where individuals desire to look like their filtered selves, leading to body image issues and a disconnect from their actual appearance.
Shifting Perceptions: What was once considered normal is increasingly perceived as substandard, while highly edited appearances become the new "norm".
Hum aesay bimaar zehan maushray main rehty hain jaha ek bad-lihaaz, batameez aur kam zarf khoobsurat larki ko biwi bana liya jaye ga lekin ek shareef, khoobseerat aur sawli rangat wali ko reject krdiya jata hai kyu k wo apky so called beauty standards pr pora nae utar pati :'))🥀

Islamic guidance on artificial beauty distinguishes between permissible acts, which generally involve hygiene and removing defects, and impermissible acts, which involve permanent alteration of Allah's creation, deception, or imitating the opposite sex. The rules vary for men and women regarding the display of adornment.
For Women
Women are generally permitted, and even encouraged within marriage, to beautify themselves, but within specific Sharia guidelines.
Permitted Practices:
Hygiene and Grooming: Practices such as trimming nails, removing pubic and armpit hair, and general cleanliness are considered part of a Muslim's nature (fitra).
Cosmetics: The use of makeup, such as foundation or lipstick, is permissible, provided it does not cause harm or form a layer that prevents water from reaching the skin during wudu (ablution) before prayer.
Adornment for the Husband: Women are encouraged to adorn themselves for their husbands at home, and there is no restriction on showing their beauty to mahram (non-marriageable kin) men or other women.
Medical Necessity: Procedures to correct defects from accidents, diseases, or congenital issues (e.g., skin grafts, breast reconstruction after a mastectomy, corrective surgery) are permissible as they are considered medical treatment or a return to the natural state.
Forbidden Practices (Changing Allah's Creation):
Tattoos and Permanent Makeup: These are explicitly forbidden, as the Prophet (PBUH) cursed those who get or give tattoos.
Eyebrow Plucking/Shaping: Plucking eyebrows (nams) is generally prohibited, as it is considered altering Allah's creation for beauty, though some opinions allow minimal trimming if they are unusually bushy or for medical reasons.
Hair Extensions and Wigs: Artificially lengthening hair with extensions is forbidden.
Unnecessary Cosmetic Surgery: Procedures done merely to enhance beauty or change natural features (e.g., nose jobs, lip fillers) are prohibited.
Wearing Perfume in Public: Women are not permitted to wear strong perfume in public as it attracts non-mahram men and can lead to fitnah (temptation).
For Men
Men's rules focus on maintaining masculinity and avoiding imitation of women.
Permitted Practices:
Hygiene and Grooming: Men are also required to maintain hygiene, which includes using deodorant, chapstick for dry lips, and trimming the beard.
Medical Necessity: As with women, procedures to remove defects or for medical treatment are permissible.
Forbidden Practices:
Imitating Women: Men are explicitly forbidden from using cosmetics or adornments that are specific to women, such as lipstick, nail polish, or feminine-smelling perfumes.
In general, Islam promotes a natural standard of beauty and discourages excessive artificial modification that seeks to change one's inherent creation. The emphasis is on inner beauty, character, modesty, and the intention behind one's actions, with beautification primarily encouraged within the bounds of marriage and among mahram family.
