24a Model of a Fluid at Rest Ideal Gas EoS Pure Part 1
Lectures 19-23 have developed the framework of thermodynamic, ranging from defining system & its state to deriving expressions for various thermodynamic properties. Till this, no model of a fluid - gas, liquid or solid or their mixtures - has been developed. Now, Lecture 24 develops the model of an ideal gas. The lecture is primarily from the thermodynamic perspective though the kinetic/transport perspective is also introduced. The lecture, due to its length, has been divided into two parts. In Part 1, the model is developed, expressions are obtained for the internal energy and enthalpy of the ideal gas (monatomic, diatomic and triatomic). In Part 2, expressions are derived for specific heats, heat capacity ratios, expansion & compression properties, entropy, changes in entropy, internal energy & enthalpy, Gibbs free energy, and chemical potential of an ideal gas.
