Characters like Venom have often taken the spotlight when it came to being an iconic villain. However, one villain that has been overlooked by the general population is the vampire Morbius. He is a living vampire who acquired his powers via the same mechanism that turned Peter Parker into Spider-Man.
Unfortunately, several Morbius scenes were censored in the animated series as the creators could not air visual clips of him draining his victims off blood on air. This is because the majority of the audience who watched Spider-Man: The Animated Series were kids.
The character was first introduced in the episode ‘The Insidious Six’ in Season 2. After being exposed to a beam from the Neogenic Recombinator while dealing with Peter Parker’s mutated blood and a vampire bat, Empire State University student Michael Morbius gets vampiric abilities. It causes him to grow a hunger for blood. This destroys his relationship with his girlfriend Felicia while Peter Parker tries his best to convince Morbius to try and get his mutation reversed.
A movie called The Living Vampire is set to release soon, under Marvel, by Columbia Pictures. It will be hitting the theatres on January 28, 2022 in the United States. Jared Leto will play the character of Michael Morbius. Before the movie releases, it would be super convenient to go through Morbius’ arc and his origin story from Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
