The Canada Drive–American Avenue Bridge in Vaughan, Ontario, carries a two-lane roadway over Highway 400, directly connecting Canada Drive and American Avenue. The bridge supports active transportation with sidewalks and dedicated bicycle lanes on both sides, improving network connectivity and reducing traffic on nearby arterial roads like Teston Road and Major Mackenzie Drive.
Constructed by EllisDon Ltd., the bridge features 14 pre-stressed and post-tensioned NU-1400 precast concrete girders spanning 40.5 metres from DECAST—one of the first uses of this technology in Ontario. Installation took place during a planned overnight closure, allowing safe erection while minimizing impacts to Highway 400 traffic. The post-tension design enabled longer spans while maximizing clearance below.
This NU-1400 girder bridge delivers a durable, high-performance structure that meets current transportation needs and accommodates future growth.
