"You are Standing on Native Ground" The Cahokia Archaeological Society is pleased to present this presentation on the Gehring Site by Dr. Julie Zimmerman of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
"Dr. Julie Zimmermann, archaeologist and anthropology professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, will present "You Are Standing on Native Land: 10,000 Years of Native American Life at SIUE." She will summarize the archaeological investigations she directed on the SIUE campus at the Gehring Site, including the discovery of a 10,000-year-old Folsom-like Paleo-Indian spearpoint, and the most intensive use of the site during the Middle Woodland (100 BC-AD 400) and Mississippian (AD 1000-1350) periods. She will also discuss what we know of living descendant Native Americans who still maintain their ties to this land."
