Some critics claim that when the Quran says, “God and His angels bless the Prophet” (33:56), it suggests that God is worshiping Muhammad. Dr. Shabir Ally says this is a misunderstanding of language and context. The Arabic term "salat" can mean different things depending on who performs it: when God does it, it means He bestows blessings; when angels do it, they pray to God to bless someone; and when believers do it, they ask God to send peace and blessings upon the Prophet. The Quran uses the same term elsewhere for God blessing all believers (33:43) and showing mercy to those who are patient (2:157), showing that the meaning is consistent. Rather than implying worship, the verse emphasizes love, respect, and divine favor for the Prophet, encouraging believers to join in honoring him through prayer and peace.
