Former Taiwan president Ma Ying-jeou has arrived in China for a 12-day trip. It's the first cross-strait visit by a current or former leader from the island in more than 70 years. Taiwan's ruling party has called the trip "regrettable", saying it was inappropriate, given that Honduras had just ended ties with the island in favour of China. Some protesters from a pro-independence group held a demonstration at Taoyuan airport before Mr Ma's departure. Mr Ma said he is making the trip in a private capacity, and that his itinerary does not include any official meetings.
