My Burton deep thinker snowboard review. The Burton Deep Thinker was a board I first saw in the background of several snowboard pro camp videos when I first got into the sport last year. I was immediately drawn to it strictly from an aesthetic point of view. I thought the sort of retro look the 2019 burton deep thinker had was cool as hell. After watching several of Kevin and Tj’s videos I immediately wanted one and knew one day I would have one in my quiver. I was able to pick up an after season deal on one in April and got it as a dream board that I would bring with me on my whistler trip the next year, basically to motivate me to elevate my riding to where I could do it justice. So fast forward to this year I knew whistler was coming up and so I wanted to take it to my local hill to get a few runs on it and get my setup right. On groomers it’s fast, stable and has a lively feel to it due to the shape. You can feel it basically working with you. It feels very much like riding a big surf board. It felt stable at high speeds and really gave me confidence on jumps where it absorbed the impact so well. I didn’t think it had as much pop as some and on the groomers runs it’s definitely fast, but just not overly playful. Now once I got it in the powder where it belongs I felt like it really came to life. This thing cut through the powder like a knife and felt so floaty and poppy. I honestly regret only getting one day in the pow on it because the deep thinker is insane in the powder and definitely made me push my limits because it was so damn fun. It felt like a totally different board and I felt like Danny Davis flying down runs and through the trees. To me on the ice and groomers it felt longer, but in the powder it felt short and nimble. It was incredible on tree runs. The shape of the board almost feels like suspension on a bike as you feel it working as you blast along. As you push, you can feel it give that energy back. If you don’t plan on riding powder, I’d say you may want to consider something else, however If you know you have some powder riding as well the 2019 Burton deep thinker is one hell of a good time and definitely worth looking into for an all mountain freeride inspired board.
