Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed responsibility for what it described as a retaliatory strike on a vessel near Iraq’s Umm Qasr after a powerful explosion rocked the container ship and triggered a maritime security investigation. The vessel, identified as the Panama-flagged MSC Sariska V, was hit on Monday while transiting waters near Iraq’s main port. While Iranian state media said the IRGC had targeted the ship with a cruise missile, preliminary findings from investigators on the ground suggested the blast may have resulted from an internal mechanical failure.
