Research is under way to develop new non‑chemical options for managing crop disease, as the grains industry looks for more sustainable tools to address rising fungicide resistance. GRDC Research Fellow Dr Elizabeth Czislowski, based at Curtin University’s Centre for Crop and Disease Management, has long been fascinated by fungal pathogens and how they can be better controlled.
With support from a GRDC Fellowship, Dr Czislowski is exploring innovative approaches that move beyond traditional chemistry. Her work focuses on identifying long‑lasting, environmentally safe methods to disrupt fungal pathogens while reducing the pressure on existing fungicides—a growing challenge for Australian growers. Her research aims to uncover new ways to protect crops and strengthen farming systems into the future. By investigating emerging technologies and blue‑sky concepts, Dr Czislowski hopes to contribute to a new generation of sustainable disease‑management solutions.
