Agenda:
1. What is a Trunk Interface And Native VLANs?
2. Types of Encapsulation (802.1q / ISL )
3. Administrative modes of Trunk? (Auto/Desirable/Static)
4. DTP Packet Analysis?
5. Configuration and Verifications of Trunk?
Types of Trunk Encapsulation?
1. IEEE 802.1q (Dot1q)
2. ISL (Cisco Proprietary)
What are the Administrative modes of Trunk?
1. Trunk
Always Acts as a TRUNK interface.
(Switchport Mode Trunk)
2. Dynamic Desirable
Initiates negotiation messages and responds to negotiation messages to
dynamically choose whether to start using trunking.
(Switchport Dynamic Desirable)
2. Dynamic Auto
Passively waits to receive trunk negotiation messages, at which point
the switch will respond and negotiate whether to use trunking.
(Switchport Dynamic Auto)
What is a Native VLAN?
802.1Q simply does not add an 802.1Q header to frames in the native VLAN. When the switch on the other side of the trunk receives a frame that does not have an 802.1Q header, the receiving switch knows that the frame is part of the native VLAN.
