Описание: This is a first in a series of videos which will illustrate the rich dance traditions of the former Greek inhabitants of the Republic of Turkey - both its European (Thrace, Trakya, Thraki) and Asian (Asia Minor, Anadolu, Anatolia) parts. In many cases the dance traditions of the local Greeks overlaps or parallels those of the neighboring Turks or other ethnic groups of the same region and in other cases it doesn't. These videos will highlight as much as possible the dance styles of the either first generation of Anatolian Greeks born in Greece or of those who left at an early age. In this video Greeks who hail from the village of Meli on the western coast of the Erythraia Peninsula, the Chesme Peininsula of the Turks, in the region of Smyrna / Izmir dance the Zeibekiko to the old tune known as "Bam". Many refugees from Meli settled in Attica near the town of Megara. In most cases the Zeybekiko of the Anatolian Greeks was more free form while the Zeybek of the Turks seems to be more structured and group oriented.
