The weather forecast across South Africa today is as follows:
The flood crisis gripping Mpumalanga Province and Limpopo Province shows no signs of easing as several days of heavy rain have left the ground completely waterlogged and more downpours are forecast, putting the northern escarpment and Lowveld regions at extreme risk for mudslides, property damage, and evacuations where fast-moving rivers threaten lives and livelihoods. Central areas of both provinces, and parts of the eastern Highveld face dangerous flooding that will swamp roads, homes, and farmland, while scattered trouble spots in central Mpumalanga Province, western Limpopo Province, and north-eastern KwaZulu-Natal Province will see localized washouts at low-lying bridges and vulnerable settlements. Severe thunderstorms packing heavy rain, damaging winds, and large hail will hammer the central and eastern North West, central Free State Province, and northern Eastern Cape Province later in the day, bringing their own flood risks and infrastructure damage, and strong winds sweeping across the western Northern Cape Province could spark runaway fires while knocking out power lines and disrupting transport routes.
