Scientists and researchers say it's even more important now for Africa to find a cure amidst the uncertainty in funding for HIV and Aids research.
This comes at the backdrop of the first HIV cure trial in Africa.
This has had promising results that could pave the way for more effective treatment.
The trial was presented at the 2025 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) in San Francisco, in the United States.
It was led by Professor Thumbi Ndung'u and a team of scientists and researchers from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in partnership with Africa Health Research Institute and the Sub-Saharan African Network for TB/HIV Research Excellence.
