Transcript:
What key insights will you be sharing in your session and why is this important?
Dr. Lousin Moumdjian: Hello, I'm Lousin Moumdjian, a postdoctoral researcher in rehabilitation sciences, and I will be presenting on a teaching course on Wednesday morning on music and rhythm-based interventions in multiple sclerosis So during this session, I will present insights on why and how do we interact with sounds and rhythms and present the neural correlators of this interaction. As well as provide evidence of how can we capitalise on this interaction and use it to improve functioning in persons with multiple sclerosis with different clinical profiles.
Dr. Ludovico Pedullà: Have you ever tried working out to the rhythm of music or noticed how your steps fall into sync when you're jogging with music? That's the power of synchronisation and it may be more than just motivating. In our pilot study we explore whether synchronising walking to music can announce the effects of gait rehabilitation in people with multiple sclerosis. At ECTRIMS, I'll share some preliminary results and participants' experiences towards the integration of this new dimension into MS rehabilitation.
Dr. Barbara Seebacher, MSc: Hello everybody. My name is Barbara Seebacher and I will be sharing some insights on motor imagery and acute motor imagery for you. I will also shed some light into the results from our qualitative study that we conducted alongside a large randomised control trial in people with MS. In this trial, we investigated the effects of acute motor imagery versus acute gait training versus a combination of the two in people with mild to moderate multiple sclerosis. And finally, I will also share some insights from our so-called "MuSic Moves.” This was a participatory study in people with MS, where we co-developed a music-supported exercise programme for and with people with MS. So why is it important that you attend this session? I think that attending this session will provide you with some more information on the effects of music-cued gate training and music-cued motor imagery in people with MS, and this will also help you to facilitate your theory-practice transfer. I am looking forward to seeing you there.
