The Town of Hilton Head Island’s Gullah Geechee Land & Cultural Preservation Task Force met this week at the Benjamin M. Racusin Council Chambers. Agenda items included staff reports on historic neighborhood permitting, an update of the home safety and repair program, a sewer connection program update, a district planning update and a land management ordinance update. Beaufort County hosted a mandatory workshop for registered non-profits interested in the current cycle of the State’s 2025-2026 Accomodations Tax Grant program this past Tuesday at the Burton Wells Recreation Center. The A-Tax Board advises Council in the expenditure of revenues in accordance with specific criteria. Of the seven member board, at majority must be selected from the hospitality industry with two members representing lodging in particular. Per Beaufort County’s Code of Ordinances, ATAX dollars are earmarked for tourism related buildings, cultural facilities, beach renourishment, water and sewer infrastructure related to tourism demand, boat ramps, roadways, tourism related marketing and emergency medical services. Beaufort County Board of Education met last night at the Hilton Head Island Middle School Library. The Board meets every first and third Tuesday of each month, beginning at 6pm, with a full schedule available on the district website. Beaufort County students return to the classroom today for a full academic calendar that will run through May of next year, weather permitting. Beaufort County Schools are provisioned to use up to five days for e-learning in the event of utility or weather interruptions. The Town of Bluffton Historic Preservation Committee will meet tonight, Wednesday August 6th at 6pm at Henry E McCracken Jr. Council Chambers. Agenda items include the new business of considering 6 applications for permitting within the Historic District. In addition to being broadcast Live on BCTV, the meeting will be available indefinitely on the BCTV YouTube channel. A Thursday meeting of the Town of Bluffton’s Affordable Housing Committee has been cancelled “due to lack of agenda items.” A link to full agendas for all Town of Bluffton meetings is available at townofbluffton.sc.gov.
The City of Beaufort is seeking proposals from qualified commercial real estate agents to provide brokerage services on the purchase and sale of City owned property. A non-mandatory pre-bid meeting will be at 2pm this Thursday, August 7th at the Planning Department Conference Room on the first floor of Beaufort City Hall. Bid submissions are due by 2pm on August 21st, at which time a public bid opening will be hed at the City hall Finance Department Executive conference room.
