Slavonski Brod Fortress, a once-mighty bastion of the Habsburg Empire. Built between 1715 and 1780 at the very edge of the empire, this fortress was strategically positioned to defend against the Ottoman Empire. Today, it stands right along the border between Croatia and Bosnia, a silent reminder of the region's turbulent history.
From above, you can see the fortress’s impressive star-shaped design, typical of 18th-century military architecture. This layout, along with its moats and layered defenses, made Slavonski Brod Fortress one of the most advanced fortifications of its time. It was built to be the Habsburgs’ major stronghold against Ottoman forces, designed to withstand sieges and serve as a vital line of defense.
