This Manfrotto tripod head is so precise you will have no excuse for a misaligned shot. Except maybe if you are in a rush....
If you area professional photographer looking for quick, accurate, and precise shots this is a great geared head. It's extremely durable and has a nice quick release plate so you can switch to handled when necessary. It's a little more expensive than some ball heads and a little larger. I would say it's great for real estate, long exposures, architecture, and for those medium format users.
I haven't or probably won't test it using a telephoto lens but it's probably stable enough for a full frame SLR and a 70-200 2.8.
