In the 1970's, films of a rebellious nature became apparent. Society was speaking back to all of the violent crimes that were truthfully taking place in the years leading up to the present moment of 1971. It seemed there was more of a concentration on the accused while the victims were being forgotten.

Film such as Taxi Driver and Death Wish came around to portray an element of vigilantism and Dirty Harry joins that group. Played by the legendary, Clint Eastwood, Harry Callaghan is a man who plays by the rules until he meets an exceptional criminal and a mad man. Disenchanted with the construct of his organization, Harry takes matters into his owns to deal with a violent psychopath. It definitely caused a huge controversy at the time of its release but it was in the end, a good detective story with an edge to it.

Clint Eastwood was already an established movie star thanks to the Spaghetti Westerns with Sergio Leone, but Dirty Harry and its sequels took him even further. There are some roles I believe people are born to play and Clint is Dirty Harry. No one else could've pulled it off...

Andrew Robinson on the other hand, was brilliant as the Scorpio Killer, a lunatic with no motive other than causing horrible crimes and harming innocent people. I almost see his character as a prototype of Joker. Apparently, his performance was so good that no one wanted to work with him for a long time since people really believed in his character. He was just a gifted actor who later did more supporting roles even with Stallone in Cobra which also deals with a renegade cop.

You have two characters who are the flip side of the same coin. They're both hunters yet only one of them has a code of ethics and morality to him. If you're looking to see one of the best films ever made from a big movie star and to see some of the city of San Francisco in the 1970s, be sure to check out Dirty Harry. This is one of the oldies that actually aged really well and has entertaining action along with a very cool actor who's one of my favorites.
