Why do We Test This Hard?
We get tools when they are new to the market and try to look for the weak points or flaws so that you, the potential buyer, know what they are purchasing. By pushing the tools beyond the normal use, we can see what the tool might look or respond like after it has been well used. Sometimes, by pushing the tool beyond its normal use, we uncover issues that are not really issues due to how the tool was used. The bottom line, we are working to get you the best and most information we can about these tools as possible. We are not here telling you to buy the tool or yelling at you to go purchase now. We simply strive to give you good information.

Ryobi came out and told everyone that the new HP line had more power and protection for the jobsite. We know many contractors use these tools, but we feel it is safe to say that the majority of contractors do not use this brand. While that is here nor there, if you were to put the RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Compact One-Handed Reciprocating Saw in an employees hand, it would most likely get used similarly to how we tested it.

Obviously, we pushed the tool to its limits and beyond, and the RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Compact One-Handed Reciprocating Saw is still working. It has a few parts that are not as tight as before, but it works. That is a testament to the new design. I do not believe that any of the older Ryobi tools would have taken that heat and abuse and still worked. We would have smoked a motor or circuit board in an older tool. That is an opinion even though we have sent many Ryobi tools up in smoke.

The RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Compact One-Handed Reciprocating Saw is ideal for cutting in tight spaces and completing overhead applications. The brushless motor delivers 3,000 SPM with a 5/8" stroke. The pivoting shoe provides loosened up over time and was able to allow us to use more of the blade and clear out more debris from the saw blade. There is also a quick blade release lever on the side of the saw to swap out blades easily. This mechanism failed on us after the first heat cycle. With a little help from a blade, we were able to make it work again but something seemed to move or fail in use.

After this test was over we had to look back and see what we proved. We were able to push the RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Compact One-Handed Reciprocating Saw well beyond what it should be used for and it is still working. The blade change mechanism did fail without abuse, but it did see a lot of heat from the abuse. The reciprocating shaft did also become very loose after the abuse. We believe the shaft becoming loose will be experienced by users who push this saw beyond its designed use and also by people who use this in sand or drywall. We are thrilled that this tool survived the testing and hope that you watch this review while thinking about how you will use the tool and if this is the right tool for your uses.
