Описание: The UK is offering up to £3,000 ($3,836) to failed asylum seekers to relocate to Rwanda. The scheme was concocted by the administration of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak after the controversial plan to forcibly deport asylum seekers to Rwanda was ruled unlawful by the Supreme Court because it would violate British and international human rights laws. The new plan is directed especially toward asylum seekers unable to return to their countries of origin. The BBC was informed that the new scheme is not dependent on the approval of Parliament, as the relocation to Rwanda would be voluntary. Business minister Kevin Hollinrake believes the new plan is cost-effective because “it costs a lot more money than that to keep people in this country who are out here without merit.” Hollinrake also surmises that the new scheme may deter future would-be asylum seekers, insomuch as he doesn’t think “anybody would try and come [to the UK] just to get £3,000 to go to Rwanda.” According to the Independent, while failed asylum seekers are unable to receive benefits in the UK or find employment, in Rwanda they “will be provided with a package of support lasting up to five years to help them obtain housing, study, undertake training, and work.” For the scheme to be put into action, Britain would have to pass the Safety of Rwanda Bill, which would classify Rwanda as a safe country. The new scheme would accommodate people who have no right to remain in the UK and foreign criminals. Although Sunak wants the first asylum seekers desirous of taking advantage of the proposal to leave in the next few months, there is no date for the first relocations to Rwanda or how many asylum seekers might avail themselves.
