How to Push Dents Out with Stanliner PDR Tools

I’ve been doing PDR for over 34 years, and one of my go-to tools is the Stanliner J Hook. These tools are stout, top-quality, and stout at the tip. I always wrap a bit of gaffer’s tape on the tip to keep it from leaving poke marks or chewing up the dent, especially on softer metals. That little step saves time and keeps the repair cleaner with fewer tap-downs.
Stanliner tools make pushing smoother and more controlled, changing how a lot of techs approach dent work. But remember, no tool matters if you can’t read the light. The reflection tells you everything. I teach my students to “walk into the dent” before going for those center pushes, which need about two to three times more pressure because of the tension. The goal is always to push clean without creating a high. Slow is smooth, and smooth is quality.
