A mid-term review on the progress of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda makes a devastating reading: Only 12 percent of the 17 development goals are on track. Hunger, inequality and poverty in many countries have increased. According to the UN, to reach the goals, we need 2 billion USD private investments - per year.
Many financial institutions already report on their positive impacts on the
Hashtag #SDGs, and so do companies. But while some really try to align their business activities to the Sustainable Development Goals, other misuse the SDGs for rainbow-washing.
In the webinar, together with Misereor, we present the new SÜDWIND e.V. research paper, which provides an overview of current SDG reporting practices among companies and investors and makes recommendations on how SDG reporting should be designed to be in line with the European Union's new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (#CSRD) to effectively channel the much needed private investment into the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Heidi Hautala, Member of the European Parliament and founder of the European Parliament working group for Responsible Business Conduct, starts with an input laying out what is expected of for European companies to make a positive contribution to the UN development goals.
