Democratic regression within the region is marked by concern for state capture by organized crime, weakening of the independence of the judiciary, the flourishing of illicit economies, and an increase in migration. The authoritarian trend from the North to the South requires creative strategies to dismantle structural violence resulting from transnational policies negatively impacting civil society. This webinar will discuss current efforts by civil society actors and lawyers to strengthen democratic institutions using legal mechanisms and pursuing alliances within the national and regional human rights systems.
