Wisdom at the Lake: Unraveling Yaksha-Prashna Webinar
Monday, December 29, 2025
8 PM EST
Welcome to a profound exploration of one of the most iconic and philosophically rich dialogues in the history of Mahabharata in Hinduism. In this webinar, hosted by the Hindu University of America (HUA), distinguished scholar Dr. Surya Narayanan Nanda unravels the "Yaksha-Prashna"—the legendary exchange between the mysterious Yaksha and Yudhishthira at the enchanted lake.
About the Yaksha-Prashna
Found in the Vana Parva (the Forest Chapter) of the Mahabharata, the Yaksha-Prashna consists of a series of riddles and questions posed by a celestial being to Yudhishthira, the eldest Pandava. These questions cover the spectrum of human existence: dharma, life, death, virtue, and the nature of the self. This dialogue is not just a test of intelligence, but a deep dive into the ethical and spiritual framework required to navigate the challenges of life with integrity.
Key Insights from the Webinar
Dr. Nanda provides a masterclass on the layered meanings of these ancient verses, focusing on:
The Living Dead: Who is a person who breathes but does not truly "live"? Discover the five daily duties (Pancha Maha Yagyas) that define a meaningful life.
The Greatest Virtue: Why kindness and compassion are cited as the highest forms of dharma.
Invincible Enemies: Understanding how anger and greed act as incurable "diseases" of the mind.
The Controlled Mind: Why mastering the mind is the only way to live a life without regret.
