He served as Collector for a record time. Rajiv Gandhi brought him into politics. He went to the Rajya Sabha, held important positions in the National Congress. When the new state was formed, he made a dramatic entry like a helicopter landing… and like a hawk, swooped in and seized the Chief Minister’s chair.
Sometimes murder charges were leveled against him, sometimes allegations of buying and selling MLAs. He survived a horrific accident by a whisker. Once he got relief from the cases, he turned against his own party. His own leaders started calling him ill. Accusations arose that he had become BJP’s Team-B. He tried to continue politics by forming his own separate party… but his body gave up on him.
