This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.
This Core Concept video focuses on the paradoxes of motion associated with the pre-Socractic philosopher, Zeno of Elea. According to ancient sources, Zeno produced a number of arguments intended to support the monistic position of his predecessor, Parmenides. Four of those that we still possess are intended to show that assuming motion or change exists lead to absurd consequences - the Dichotomy, the Achilles, the Arrow, and the Stadium. Those four are discussed here.
