A showdown over the election laws (amendment) bill 2016 was witnessed in parliament with a heated debate over a clause barring party hopping causing acrimony. The Jubilee coalition leadership instructed it's membership in the national assembly to pass the bill with the clause barring party hopping. This is despite a bipartisan approach by MPs from across the divide last week to defeat the clause and allow party hopping at will through amending the report of the joint select committee on IEBC reforms.
