During long recess at McGirr Elementary, Child, Youth and Family Support Worker Brea Forell runs the HUB program. The overarching goal at McGirr is to foster a sense of community, not only within each classroom but for the school as a whole. It's important to have a safe place where students of varying ages can come together to connect with others. At the HUB, students can do activities, play games, draw, colour, build Lego and connect and socialize with other students. It's also an opportunity for Ms. Forell to help facilitate peer relationships and provide a space for students to come when they're without someone to play with.
The hope is to foster a sense of belonging among students - a place where everyone feels welcomed and included.
