Nat Johnson (1883-1921) was a career pianist who also composed a bit of ragtime. He composed songs and other instrumentals as well, in addition to five or six published rags. All his rags are good, the best-known of them being "Calico Rag" from 1914. He had additional scores recorded on piano rolls which were never apparently published. Originally from Boston, he had ties to Chicago. Johnson moved out West around 1915 and was a known performer in Prescott, Arizona for a time, then shifting to Silver City, New Mexico where he also performed. By 1920 he had contracted tuberculosis and died from it in 1921. He was only 37 years old. This rag was published by Forster Music Publisher in Chicago in 1912.
