Syrian family to be resettled in US leave Jordan

Описание: (6 Apr 2016) A Syrian refugee family departed the Jordanian capital of Amman for Kansas City in the US on Wednesday, under a fresh resettlement surge programme.
US immigration officials launched a three-month surge initiative in February to boost resettlement numbers of refugees.
The al-Abboud family was on Wednesday the first to be resettled as part of the programme, said US Ambassador to Jordan Alice Wells, as she saw off the family at the airport.
The seven members of the al-Abboud family will be living in Kansas City.
In total, the US will resettle 85,000 refugees, of which 10,000 will be Syrians, said Gina Kassem, the Regional Refugee Coordinator at the US Embassy.
As part of this effort, special iris scanning technology has been set up at the airport.
1,300 Syrian refugees have already been resettled in the US, with 1,000 stemming from Jordan.
Every day, the centre interviews some 600 Syrians.
