Описание: In December 2017, Canada passed the S-3 amendments to the Indian Act that were designed to correct the ‘wrongs of the past’ in terms of sex-based discrimination in the original law. The amendments were sparked by the 2015 Descheneaux Decision, in which the court ordered that the law be re-written to accommodate persons with Aboriginal ancestry who are not currently registered as ‘Status Indians.’ The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke has been very concerned that S-3 will undoubtedly have major impacts on communities – including Kahnawà:ke.
