In this video, I will briefly explain the Nitrophos and Calcium ammonium nitrate fertilizers usage in cotton crop. Short review of Sarsabz NP and CAN gwara will also be given in the video.
Some farmers prefer Nitrophos and CAN over DAP and Urea. Reason behind this is acidic nature of Nitrophos and slow releasing nature of CAN gwara. CAN granules are coated with calcium so the losses of nitrogen in air and in soils are minimum as compared to Urea. Further Nitrophos is easily soluble in water that s why, it is preferred over DAP as it can be fertigated easily.
Nitrophos and CAN can be applied in cotton in such a way;
2 bags Nitrophos+ 1 bag SOP + 3.5 kg Borax boron should be used at Land preparation time.
Mixing of fertilizers in 200 kg well rotted farmyard manure increases the efficiency of these fertilizers.
If farmers have not applied fertilizers as basal dose, they may apply it 25 days after cotton seed sowing after thinning.
1 to 1.5 bags of Nitrophos should be applied at the age of 45 days of cotton plants. Fertilizers application after hoeing gives best results.
1 bag of Calcium ammonium nitrate CAN gwara should be applied at the cotton plants age of 60 days.
1 bag CAN gwara at 75 days crop.
1 bag CAN gwara at 90 days crop.
In this way, 3 to 4 bags of CAN gwara application gives best results.
Zinc sulphate and boron micronutrients are essential for crops especially cotton crop as these nutrients increase flowering and decrease shedding of fruits and flowers. Number of cotton bolls can be increased by these micronutrients spray. 3 foliar sprays are recommended at the age of 45, 60 and 75 days crop.
