Patricia Neal doesn’t give herself enough credit for everything she’s done. One of her final films was called The Unremarkable Life, but she led anything but. As soon as her career started, it began to balloon, but that’s not the most interesting thing about her. What makes her shine is the way she overcame the difficult parts of her remarkable life. One of their children got a serious brain condition after being hit by a vehicle as a baby. Another died of measles.

They would not have been accurate without Roald to find the right therapies and push her to recover. That didn’t mean their relationship was sound. She got a taste of her own medicine when he left her for another woman. In her final years, she enjoyed being single and her career thrived. Would she have changed anything if she could?
