Standing at Mt George Lookout, overlooking the Tamar River and George Town, Tasmania — today I’m talking about one of the most important chapters in Australian history.
This is the region where the first Europeans arrived in 1804 – when Tasmania was still called Van Diemen’s Land.
This coastline became the earliest permanent European settlement in northern Tasmania, after the British left Port Dalrymple to establish a base near here.
