thondhi sariya mayirE veLiRa: With my paunch sagging, my hair graying,

nirai dhantham asaiya: erstwhile perfect teeth shaking,

mudhugE vaLaiya: my back hunched,

idhazh thonga: my lips drooping, and

orukai thadimEl vara: one hand resting on a supporting cane, (I will be moving).

magaLir nagaiyAdi thoNdu kizhavan ivan yArena: The girls will be giggling and wondering who this old man is!

irumal giN giNena mun uraiyE kuzhara: With metallic sound in my cough and incoherent speech,

vizhi thunju kurudu padavE sevidupadu seviyAgi: my eyes dimmed due to blindness and ears deafening,

vandha piNiyum adhilE midaiyum oru pandithanum: I will be afflicted by all diseases, and, to add to my woe, will be this native doctor intruding!

meyuRu vEdhanaiyum: I will suffer so much pain all over my body.
