A-Train4014 Productions has been honored to fly out to Ogden, Utah to see Union Pacific FEF-3 844 “The Living Legend” and the recently rebuilt Union Pacific Big Boy 4014.

On May 6, we flew into Salt Lake City, Utah and took a drive to Ogden Union Station where UP 4014 and UP 844 are going to replicate the historical famous image of Union Pacific 119 and Central Pacific “Jupiter” 60 in Promontory Summit. We checked out the sights around Ogden Union Station as well as some parts of downtown where they would hold a big festival featuring food trucks, entertainment booths, including lots of street performances to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the first Transcontinental Railroad.

On May 8, we drove up to Weber Canyon near a rest stop on the highway where we would set up our cameras to see Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 and Union Pacific FEF-3 844 doublehead into Ogden. The crowds were huge as they greeted the steam locomotives into town. After the train passed us at Weber Canyon, we tracked it in the yard to get more footage of 844 and 4014.

On May 9, we headed to Ogden Union Station for the celebration where Union Pacific hosted a big ceremony featuring Union Pacific 4014 and Union Pacific 844 replicating the historical image back in 1869. To kick off the ceremony, Big Boy 4014 was given a grand entrance featuring railroad radio communication between Union Pacific CEO, Lance Fritz and Union Pacific Engineer, Ed Dickens. As Big Boy 4014 makes its appearance, U.S. Politicians and Union Pacific Executives made brief speeches. The “icing on the cake” was when a group of people ranging from descendants of Chinese workers who were part of building the Transcontinental Railroad to Union Pacific Executives posing at the giant golden spike. At the end of the celebration, we stuck around by getting more footage of Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 and Union Pacific FEF-3 844 featuring a little bit of whistle action. Eventually, we would stay till late in the evening where we took many photos and brief video clips of the two locomotives at night.

Finally on May 12, we would ride behind Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 and Union Pacific FEF-3 844 from Ogden Union Station to Evanston, Wyoming. Before we left Ogden, we had enough time to spare to see the locomotives to get photos and short videos before boarding in Dome Class. After this amazing train ride, we would officially become 1 out of 120 people to ride behind Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 on its very first steam excursion. This would conclude our incredible journey of seeing Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 and Union Pacific FEF-3 844.

We would like to give a big thank you to everybody at Union Pacific, Spike 150, and to all who make our special trip very memorable. We have enjoyed every minute of this journey and it was disappointing when everything came to end as we returned home to Chicago. We hope you enjoy this special video presentation!
