Tonight’s performance is a special one. Even though Für Elise isn’t a traditional Christmas song, I chose it for my eighth performance of the Holiday 2025 Season because it carries memories, history, and nostalgia that perfectly match what Christmas means to me.

🎼 About the Piece

Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor, known worldwide as “Für Elise”, is one of Beethoven’s most iconic compositions — simple, haunting, instantly recognizable.
Not published during Beethoven’s lifetime
Discovered 40 years after his death by Ludwig Nohl
The original autograph manuscript is now lost
“Elise” may have been Therese Malfatti, Elisabeth Röckel, or Elise Barensfeld
The version we hear today is Nohl’s 1810 transcription
Beethoven’s 1822 revision introduced dramatic changes to the accompaniment and phrasing
Despite its mysteries, Für Elise became a global cultural icon — in films, ringtones, toys, classrooms, and every piano student’s journey.

🎄 Why Play Für Elise at Christmas?
For me, Christmas is nostalgia — childhood memories, familiar melodies, and the warmth of people we love, including those who are no longer here.

My personal reasons:
✨ My mom played this piece during her own piano lessons
✨ It was one of the first piano pieces I ever heard
✨ My late grandfather Vahan Ananian would’ve loved hearing me perform it
✨ The holidays make me feel closest to those memories

And it appears in so many childhood shows that shaped my musical life:
Baby Beethoven, Baby Shakespeare, Meet the Orchestra (Baby Einstein)
Arthur vs. The Piano (PBS Kids), where Arthur learns to face stage fright
And most importantly — Little Einsteins ❤️

🚀 Why This Performance Matters Today
I played the Little Einsteins theme for the show’s 20th Anniversary…
I played In the Hall of the Mountain King on Halloween because of their spooky episode…

And now, for Christmas, I’m honoring them again.
Because Für Elise was featured in their episode “The Christmas Wish”, which premiered exactly 20 years ago today — December 12, 2005.
It also appears in another episode, “A Galactic Goodnight.”

So tonight, this performance is for:

✨ Beethoven
✨ Childhood nostalgia
✨ My grandfather
✨ My mom
✨ Arthur & Baby Einstein
✨ And the Little Einsteins, celebrating 20 years of The Christmas Wish

❤️ Final Thoughts

Music connects generations — and Christmas is the perfect time to feel all of that at once.
