2023 - Caprivi Strip & Okavango Panhandle, Namibia & Botswana - 25 Sept - 4 Oct

Описание: We returned to Windhoek, Namibia after some important family time at home in Australia’. Fresh mountain air after the dust and wind of Namibia was certainly appreciated.

Tommy’s suspension had been fixed. And he was all clean and shiny. We were ready to go.

Our first stop a lovely grassy campsite just near the world’s largest meteorite (Hoba) with it’s cool echo. We continued north to the Caprivi strip and the Cubango River where we stopped to breathe, enjoy animal viewing from our quirky camp (Ngepi) before venturing into the Bwabawata National Park.

Crossing the border into Botswana on a public holiday = border officials who don’t know all the processes. It took 3 attempts with the custom’s offical to get him to accept our money to pay for our road tax. I think he wanted to get rid of me. The roadside elephants raiding the water pipeline inspection holes next to the road were a new (but common) sight.

Tsodillo Hills (a world heritage site) delivered a wide range of paintings, from 2 different eras. There were animals, people & their everyday tools,. The most surprising, paintings of a penguin and whale….. we were 1000km from the sea - clearly nomadic people.

We returned to our restful camp with a lovely cooling pool to hear new clunks under the car - we were worried - with our imminent trip to Moremi. We knew this would be a highlight and that getting bookings in the park tricky. We decided to head quickly to Maun and get it checked out. Safari Engineering helped us get the parts ordered and reassured us we would be right to head into Moremi.

After visiting 8 shops to supply ourselves for Moremi, we left Maun and headed north.
